The False Teachings of the Word of Faith Movement

Gregory P. Garwood

On The Word of Faith Movement (WOF) and Heresy – Christian BEWARE!

The majority of Contemporary churches today have strayed far away from sound biblical doctrine, the conviction of sin and the good news of salvation through the redemptive blood of Jesus Christ shed for the remittance of that sin for every human who comes to Him in repentance as written in the gospel.

The Word / Faith prognosticators are the worst of them. Where the New Apostolic controllers manipulate and control with Bylaws, works and documents of bondage, The Word / Faith people offer what the peoples itchy ears want to hear, a touchy feely fuzzy message of all grace all the time. It’s a false hope, a null, hollow word that is leading many unsuspecting souls straight to hell.

The Word / Faith prognosticators teach that faith is a “power” and that our words have “power,” kind of like the force in Star Wars. Word Faith giants like Kenny (The Jet) Copeland, Benni (Holy Spirit machine gun) Hinn, Joel Osteen, Kenneth Hagin and Joyce Meyers teach that we, as God’s children have inherited health and wealth and that we have all the prosperity of God. They teach that we have the same power to speak anything into being if we have enough faith.

They teach that we are actually little gods because we are created in the image of God. (This takes the sovereignty of God completely out of the picture, but that is the topic of another paper.)

They teach that Jesus was actually very wealthy as we should be if we have the faith. This they preach in direct contradiction to Jesus’ words in Matthew 8:20 ; Jesus replied,

“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

Jesus taught to give all, not gather to ourselves as Jesus told the wealthy young ruler; Mark 10: 21 – 22; 21

Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.” 22 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

The Word / Faith Prosperity gospel prognosticators tell us to “Sow a seed of faith” and we will receive a 1000 fold return for lining the televangelist’s pockets. Oh, and if your 1000 fold increase fails to come to fruition, either you’re lacking sufficient faith to bring it about or you are not living a godly life, then there is always the possibility of “hidden sin” in your life blocking God’s blessing.

Any way you look at it the failure is always yours. A new media has seized upon the unsuspecting Christian Community. We erroneously think that if it’s on God TV, The Trinity Broadcasting Network or the 700 Club, it must be safe and legitimate. We’re told over and over again to “Go to the Phone” and call in your seed offering. And if you have no money to give they’ll even take your credit card so you can really sow in faith with what you don’t have! Now THAT”S sacrificial giving!

This is all hyped as your contribution toward getting the truth to a hurting and dying world but there is one big problem, there is no truth to what they are speaking. They are truly the blind leading the blind as Jesus said it would be.

We are often told “Do not touch the Lord’s anointed!” (1 Samuel 26: 9 taken completely out of context.)

1 Samuel 26:9

David said to Abishai, Do not destroy him; for who can raise his hand against the Lord’s anointed and be guiltless?

This was King David speaking about Saul when he had an opportunity to kill him in the wilderness; this word was intended to illustrate David’s obedience to God. This scripture is not intended to be used as an excuse to prevent scriptural accountability by the fakes of today.

The Gullible also say; “If they are producing fruit, let them alone!” I don’t think the end justifies the means. Truth is 100% true or it isn’t truth! Prophecy is 100 % accurate or it’s false! Galatians 5:9 ; A little leaven (a slight inclination to error or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church]. (Amp.)

As you see, modern man has diluted and secularized the Word of God and we are being lead and sometimes coerced into a false, phony religion that offers a counterfeit salvation rife with deception and false hope. These arrogant men feel at liberty to do what ever they choose to empower themselves to control every church and every member. In these last days one must be very careful to discern what we hear and hold everything to the inerrant word of God.
